    All,

One of the most fantastic things at the Geseke Show was the smoking steam locos! After talking with Hermann Becker of Z-Friends-Europe he told me that the man behind the smoke, Michael Bahls, is ready to take orders from anyone who wants him to make their Z scale loco smoke!

Hermann stated that Michael has small steam generators that get built into the locos together with a small tank for the fluid. The larger locos (Mikados, BR03, BR10 etc) are easy to have the conversion done, because they have enough space already inside to build in the generator and the tank. It is very much more difficult on the smaller steam locos, because of the lack of space inside, but it still can be accomplished. Inside the smaller locos room has to be produced by removing some of the metal inside to make room for the tank and smoke generator. Therefore the conversion for the bigger locos will be less expensive with better results, as the bigger locos also can carry a bigger tank for the fluid, (up to half an hour of steam). Price range for the conversion of the larger locos will start about 70 Euros and about 150 Euros for the smallest locos.

You can contact Michael Bahls at: Bahls @ t-online. de

    Enjoy!

    Thanks John!

I've been waiting for this info.

I guess we have to send locos over to him in Germany for him to do the installs. I wonder if he would consider a US agent to do work here, someone like the Stiskas maybe.

Did he give any idea what the timeframe for an install is and if he has a backlog yet?

I would like to do one before NTS.

Does this smoke stink as bad as the large scale smoke generators? ;)

    Thanks,
    Randy

Bryan, I let you know. First I have to wait until the AC-12 arrived. Anthony send me the packet this week so it will arrive next week in Switzerland.

    Randy,

No smell that I can recall and I got very close to it. No idea of the turn-around time since Michael Bahls is just getting started doing this. I would contact him personally.
