Any word out there on how the new GE units are performing on NS? I saw a trio of them today on a coal train, but they had a D9-40CW leading. Harold
Haven't even seen one up here in the NE yet. Kind of like to try one out but may have to wait till they're fully 'broke in' down south. (or maybe just plain 'broke') LOL
Don't they have metric fasteners on them, so they have been placed in captive service near Roanoke? Harold
I have heard nothing but good things about the NS ES40DC units from those using them. They were initially in captive service for test purposes, but are now in active service system wide. Chris Toth
I wish at least a few of them were AC units. NS doesn't even seem to want to dip their toe in the water. I guess we'll be the last holdout for DC traction while the rest of the world moves up. Sure could use some of that down and dirty lugging power these days.
I'll be glad to see 50+ come on line. Quite comfortable smooth riders right down to the cup holders, also very quiet even at track speed. Some of the best seats we have are on these.
...And the only reason the high-hoods and skinny cabs are gone is because the cost of being the oddball got too high. Nothing like having to be dragged kicking and screaming into the real world.
