While plastering at SAMRA, we were cutting some nice, stiff glossy paper to make templates for some rock castings that need to be cut to fit particular locations. There was lots and lots of this paper. I found a printer paper sized box full a few hundred Golden West brochures advertising their car types. I took one as a memento as the photos and color were excellent. You don't see many Golden West cars looking this nice anymore. Here are thumbnails of the brochure.
That's a good find, Flash! One interesting note about the GWS 89' flatcars: As far as anyone has been able to determine, the car in the brochure is the only one that was ever painted in GWS colors. Maybe SP changed their minds. Here's a couple of pictures from 1992 in Roseville, CA: http://shastaroute.railfan.net/Photos/Golden_West/CRLE_830006_a.jpg http://shastaroute.railfan.net/Photos/Golden_West/CRLE_830006_b.jpg John
Neat find. Any chance of liberating some more of those copies? I'd like to add them to my reference files. Greg
so , Golden West Service was started by the espee? I always wondered about the golden west. I have seen many different reporting marks on these cars. so it is kinda like a freight car leaser? Very good on the find, and th ecars look absolutely excelent!
What was the significance of the name "Golden West" I recall seeing these cars all the time when I was younger. I didn't realize they were actually SP cars.
