I've been wanting to get into N scale lately and was wondering if anyone can recommend a good DCC (or DCC ready) starter set. I'm looking at Fleichmann 931081 with MultiMAUS or Trix 11129 with Mobile Station.
I know that Trix locos are metal diecast construction which is something I would prefer over a plastic plastic model, but it also dictates almost a double price over Fleichmann. Can anyone share any comments on Fleichmann quality, plastic or metal, do they use flywheel, bell armature etc? Is anyone using either Central Station or MultiMAUS, or should I be looking for third party product. My goal is to build a smaller tabletop layout to run small-scale operations with my son (in few years). Controller has to be simple to operate (big rotary knob as in MultiMAUS), preferably wireless. I prefer DB era 3-5.
I initially started collecting Z scale DB, but I feel N scale with DCC is way to go for my purposes.

    Thanks
    ig

I would recommend the Atlas Trainman set with the GP15. You can usually find them for around $100 (shop around, there is a vast price difference among etailers), and the loco is DCC ready and runs great. You can find a simple DCC contoller made by Bachmann on Ebay for about $40 most of the time. Add a decoder to the GP15 and you are off and running for about $170 + shipping. I would recommend you buy the decoder from the same place you get the train set.

John, while the Atlas GP15 is a great U.S. loco, it does not match the GERMAN prototype that ignacj is looking for.

Ignacj, sorry, but all I know about German trains is that they look cool, and my favorite European loco is Swiss. I wish that I could help.
