Hello all, I'm looking for some good PRR history books, especially those dealing with the transition era and with lots of photos. I want to freelance a PRR railroad. I would like to do a prototype model, but my engineer's brain won't let me make the sacrifices I would need to accomplish this and I'm not sure I could do it justice. I feel far safer letting my imagination run free. That having been said though, I would still like to give it the look of the PRR. Regards, Steve
If you can find them, Pennsy Power and Pennsy Power II by Alvin Staufer. Maybe at www.ronsbooks.com or eBay... Just saw this out on Amazon.com - Pennsylvania Railroad (Railroad Color History) by Mike Schafer (Author), Mike McBride (Author) Price: $18.21
Or try Abebooks. There isn't a single out of print book that I couldn't find on there. I have a lot of Pennsy books, so I know they were once out there. Pennsy Power, like B&O Power, is an excellent book.
HI,Steve. Have two photo books on the Pittsburgh area PRR published for the PRRTHS. While the area is specific, the subjects are exemplary of the P Company. The Pennsy in the Steel City, and I think the other was The Pennsy in the Golden Triangle, both by Ken Kobus and Jack Consoli published in 1996, believe one or both available thru Amazon for around $20. They are B&W photos with descriptive text and some auxiliary diagrams and maps set in the late steam/early deisel '40s/'50s. If you can find them, they should be useful. Bob
PRR History Books I have all the books others have referred 40's and 50's truely inspirational; they inspired me. I have 2 others Pennsy Diesel Years 1 & 3 by Robert J Yanosey, Morning Sun Books.
If you find them, Alvin Stauffer's books are excellent sources on the Pennsy. Pennsy Power I, II & III are the ones for the pennsy. I know that Tommy Gilbert's Hobby Shop in Gettysburg has the 1 & 2 but I don't know about 3. Web Site: Tommy Gilbert's Hobby Shop POSI-Store Web Site Ph: 717-337-1992 I have all 3 Penny Power books as well as B&O and C&O Power.
How could I forget about Pennsy Power (The Pennsy Bible) "Al Stauffer". Also Rails to Pittsburgh 1945 to 1970 by W.A. Feibelman
