Thats a GP35, not a 30. It's missing the buldge over the dynamic brakes.

Thanks again Harold for another great shot. Looks like it must have been a GP30 wreck rebuild. Even the cab roof (spartan style) is not GP30.
Must have had a lot of damage!

Actually, it is a GP30 that was wrecked and rebuilt by EMD, however, since they were building GP35's at the time, they placed the components into a GP35 carbody. Southern classified it as a GP30 because (mechanically) it still was.

That is an interesting one for the model kit-bashers :D

Any idea how long it lasted?

The 2526 was one of a pair of Southern Railway GP30's that were wrecked and rebuilt by EMD with GP35 carbodies. The 2526 was wrecked in August 1965 at Chamblee, Georgia, while the 2641 was wrecked in May of 1965 in Croswell, South Carolina. Both units were retired by NS in 1989. The 2526 had been repainted into the NS Thoroughbred scheme.

    Chris,
Thanks for the additional information. I thought there was possibly more than one unit rebuilt in a GP35 body.
