Hi there. I've just finished all my stuff that consists of painting an undec GP38-2 shell, and its matching handrails. (I tested Micronart's but I just didn't manage to set them in place as they have only 5 binding points, instead of 12 with original handrails)

When everything was dry I tried to put handrails to place.

However, I didn't manage to do that, as shell received a few layers of paint, and so did its matching handrails.

All shell's holes seemed to be rather full of paint, although I tried to make them broader with a thin needle.

And handrails are rather soft, their binding pins beeing unable to be pushed to place into shell's holes, maybe due to paint inside shell and on handrail's pins. I'm affraid of breaking anything on handrails and I don't insist.

So if anybody here has any suggestion... ;)

Build new from wire as I did for my GP40-2 or use the micronart handrails. It will improve the look of your model. /Frank

Thank you Frank. As I said earlier I didn't take any fair action to manage using Micronart's on this unit. Too much paint here and there, on handrails binding points as well as in the shell's holes. I'll do that on my subsequent units, putting vaseline into shell's holes and onto handrail binding points prior to painting.

So on this one I finally managed to use original handrails, widening holes with a #80 bit.

Pictures will follow shortly, on the dedicated topic:

Dom, those holes on the thread link images look MUCH bigger than a #80 !

I would carefully check the drill size before painting. Then, just paint as you did, then clean them out. Putting Vaseline will in no-way work well ! You will have residue all around the hole, with no way to just wipe the outer surface, leaving only grease in the hole. Your paint won't adhere in the area around the hole.

For the hand rails, you can make holes in masking tape, then press the mounting tips of the rails half way in the hole. The tacky on the tape will hold it. Clean off the slight residue, if needed (most of it should be 'masked' by the 90 degree bend from the vertical rails so, not get much paint on it anyway).

Thank you for your advise, Jeff. Will do that with my next unit to be painted. ;)
