While waiting at a crossing for a train to clear, I noted that some graffiti (tagging, spray paint) partially covered the car's reporting marks. Will railroads be forced to move their reporting marks higher on freight cars and out of reach of these "artists"?
1. Since the reporting marks are also high up on the ends of the car, it can still be determined visually. 2. At most locations, the AEI tag on the car is "read" by a burst of microwaves to determine initials and number, so the car need contain no other identification.
