flats Thanks for the Kudos. The first flat is an extensively modified 85' Minitrix container flat. The second one is a bashed 89' MT flat. It now resides on Mike Danneman's layout. If you want more info, I can provide it.
Are any Alan Curtis cars correct for a D&RGW flat? I have a few ACM car kits yet to build, sure beats doing them in TTX!
D&RGW flats The AC channel side cars might do the trick. I only went off the photo on page 60 of the RG Color Guide. Some of the 21700-21759 series may not have had stake pockets, I am not sure.
Here's and OLD D&RG. Found the photo in the old Beebe book...Mainline of the Rockies...Since then, I understand there is one on private property, I think somewhere in Colorado.....Note: They made sure everyone new what kind of car it was...LOL
Found the correct #'s on the D&RG historical site. the photo is on page 94 of the book. This was 'railroadin'. Note the walkway around the cupola and the single hand rail on the roof. Then imagin a Rocky Mt. winter and some poor brakeman trying to make his way along the walkway...........Yikes!!!!!!!
Of course, the car would be rockin' & rollin', swaying, icy, and the wind would be of gale force. You'd be cumbered with layer upon layer of clothing, heavy gloves, and the walkways would no doubt be slick. Imagine trying to tie down handbrakes on the same train, in this weather, on the brink of running away down a 4% grade!! No thanks, I'll pass!
I need to review this thread as there are some great modeling ideas here and good looking models, too. Here is DRGW3086, the first to receive SP paint. This model is fairly old. It is an old Concor (Atlas?) shell with .006 inch brass handrails, wire grabs, lift rings, and other details. I was weathering it and got interrupted, but not bad like this -- needs more dirt. It has a new Atlas mechanism and is one of my favorites on my Espee layout.
