Last week a friend and I visited the Derby model railway show, and as usual took the opportunity to travel by rail from Grantham. Whilst awaiting our train I photographed a few trains. This is a GNER London bound HST entering the station Same train heading south, trains are restricted to 110 mph through the station!
A BG Railfreight class 66 arrives with a southbound very lightly loaded container train Spotted this plaque on a catenary post!
Alan, i absolutly love seeing your pictures. seeing trains from other countries is so interesting to me, hopefully one day i will make it out of this country and see some first hand. but for now, thanks for sharing, and keep up the good work! -Rob
Nice pics Alan, looking forward to the rest. I still have no shots of the GBRf ones, despite various trips round the country. Got a few sets of shots from my trips the other week, but i'll get them prepared for later!
Great pictures, Alan!! Isn't it interesting how in the UK passengers have platforms level with the cars, whereas in the States we have to climb up from the ground. Could that be a reason passenger travel is still so popular there, but not here? Hmmmmm.... (On a totally unconnected sidenote - Darby and Grantham are the names of the two main characters in the John Grisham book/movie The Pelican Brief. Wonder if Mr Grisham got his inspiration from a similar outing? )
A surprise was awaiting us when we arrived at Derby, in the shape of 45112, unfortunately the sun was behind the locomotive
I had not seen a Fragonset locomotive before so was pleased that this class 47 was standing at the other end of the station
The Midland Mainline HST sets were mostly a mix of old and new paint schemes as seen in these pictures
A general view of the station with HST and class 170's in evidence. The class 45 can also be seen in the right distance
