Yo, Colin, welcome to Trainboard. I took a look at the Havre, MT newspaper site and can't find any way to communicate with them other than their guestbook, or run an ad. Anyway, here's a link. Personally, I don't know who takes care of the engine. http://www.havredailynews.com/
To the best of my knowledge, the S2 4-8-4 2584 was the best of all the surviving S-2 Locomotives prior to their heading to the scrap yard in Minneapolis. In the early 70's when BN took over GN, an effort was made by a friends of the GN railroad to preserve a locomotive for posterity. 2584 was chosen and given to the town of Havre, MT since it was in the best shape. It is my understanding, the RR museum of Havre is in charge of the cosmetic appearance of 2584 and I just saw it today and she looks in remarkable shape. She is landlocked at the Havre RR depot.
