I was fortunate to capture the tri-weekly southbound from Jackson, MS to Gulfport on a gorgeous day. The sequence starts with the train coming out of the woods at Saucier, MS, about 25 miles north of Gulfport. This branch is 25 mph dark territory between Gulfport and Hattiesburg, MS where it crosses NS, then interchanges with and has trackage rights on CN/IC to Jackson. At Jackson it joins the KCS Meridian Speedway, ending at the KCS yard. The power for this train was: 1916, GP38-2; 1009, ? (recent ex-UP); 2913, GP40-3 (ex-CN GP40-2LW); and 2901, GP40-2LW (ex-CN).
25 mph dark territory? Wow. That track looks more like a freeway, compared to so many other branches we know these days. Nice greenery... It's mid-20's and snowing here today. Boxcab E50
