I have an older Life Like Proto 2000 GP30 and I am trying to install nose headlights. I need to remove the weight (all one piece for this engine) to remove part of the nose section to allow enough room for the LED light installation. How do I get the weight out? I have removed the shell and the screw at each end that goes into the weight. I have also removed the fuel tank. The weight still won't come off. Somehow I need to separate it from the frame. Is there another set of screws I can't see? Thanks for the help on this one. BTW, this engine has been converted to DCC. Eight pin plug.
Flash - Here's a link to an exploded diagram of the GP30 - - looks like the weight in the nose is cast as part of the overall weight and will need to be cut out. Take a look: http://hoseeker.net/lifelikeenginediagrams/lifelikeproto2000gp30phase1pg02.jpg
Thanks! I'll say that those two posts right there hit the nail on the head! Thanks, guys. It's exactly the information I needed. I would also say the H0 Seeker website is a very good one. Something I will use a lot. I may have another way of cutting the nose. I'll turn it upside down (so no shavings get in the mechanism) and use a jigsaw with a metal blade. I'm still thinking about it.
Here's the way I did the cutting holding the engine upside down in a vise. Used a jigsaw with a metal blade. Shavings everywhere! That is why I covered the mechanism first. I don't think the unit is damaged, It does run on DC. I have rewired the lights and will test and reprogram on DCC this afternoon.
