For those who have installed large (20 to 28mm) round speakers into brass tenders, have you drilled many holes or simply cut away a section of the floor? How did you immobilize the floor while drilling or cutting? Has anyone cut into the coal bunker sheet to emit sound from the top? Several speakers are on their way. Your examples will provide ideas. Of course I do not intend to cut the floor entirely in half.
Years ago I used to use a PFM sound system. One locomotive that I still have, a brass Z-5 Yellowstone (2-8-8-4) already had holes drilled into the floor of the tender from the factory and a cam on one of the driver axles. PFM sound was a big thing years ago. I have a brass PFM consolidation that I added sound to and drilled about 8 quarter inch holes in the floor of the tender. The tender body on this model could be removed from the frame. I set the frame on an old piece of wood and had no problem drilling the holes.
