For my Nn3 layout I plan to use Z scale track for my staging yard and hidden track but hand lay most of the track with longer N scale ties.

Mark, have you got any pics of the layout(s) that your club works on? I would love to see some. Is it in On30? Do you guys hand lay the track? Am I asking alot of questions? LOL.

Well my start in On30 was HO track with ties removed and that was back in 1983 IIRC. It had a narrow gauge look to it IMHO. I built a couple of narrow gauge cars and put them on some old HO trucks. It had a very narrow gauge look. I buried the ties in dirt and weeds so the small size of the ties wasn't apparent. It looked like a tired old narrow gauge siding that hadn't had a car moved on it for years. It was quick and dirty. :D Onto a later time frame, I use hand laid track with ties meant for On3 but gauged for my On30 equipment. Still cheaper but not by much than Peco On30 flex. No insult taken but I believe we were giving the low end price wise and a way to get some trains running sooner than later. After all, I've been on the short end of the stick financially and still wanted to model trains. And speaking of hand laying track, HO is perfect for Sn42. I've developed a keen interest in New Zealand Railways. Those early GE's and English Electric diesels are neat IMHO. So once again I'm on the cheap, using stripped HO flex for a source of rail and I'm dabbling in Sn42. This time I'll have an engine, an Athearn PA1 will be the donor for the trucks and motor. New side frames if I go with the GE or modified if I go with the EE.

    Cheers,

Jim sheesh you made me blush there. Thanks a lot for the great compliment.
And I am in O scale but it is narrow gauge. I am into On30. But everything is 1/4 inch scale or O scale.

    thanks again :D:D:D

Greg,Lorne and all.I have no pics nor camera to take em.I too am on the 'short end of the stick' financially.I am officially not a member of the SGG but go there often, to be around RR I don't have at home(standard HO,home). They welcome all visitors all the time.I will join when I finally can afford..There's a 'newer' standard guage interspersed, too.Great, great layouts(Sn3/HOn2.5).You might be able to find pics by running a search of,say,"narrow gauge MRR clubs in Ca." (or Pasadena,Ca.)..10-4 on the HO flex and all..
