July 22, 2007 marks the 20th anniversary of the startup of the Kiamichi Railroad, which operates 227.5 miles of former BN (nee Frisco) trackage in Oklahoma, Texas & Arkansas, and runs on 4 additional miles of track leased from KCS from Hope south to Anthony, AR. From the nadir of 18,000 carloads handled by BN in its last year of operations, Kiamichi has built up to over 50,000 carloads annually, and moves crushed rock, pulpwood, bulk flour, coal, paper, papermaking chemicals, tinplate, grain, foodstuffs and woodchips.

KRR was originally owned by members of the Hadley family of Pennsylvania, and headed by former LTV vice president-railroading Jack Hadley. It was sold to Statesrail by the turn of the century, and later became part of Railamerica.
