Here are a couple of pics of the hazards that have been encountered on the Alice Springs to Darwin Rail Project As they say a picture paints a thousand words [ 08. August 2002, 08:28: Message edited by: Colonel ]
I would say that the Locals are not all that interested in having a rail line pass through their neighborhoods. Disruptive to their lives to say the least! Great shots Paul.
To my best knowledge these are actual shots. I dont think they are rattle snakes they look more to be diamond pythons but I'm no expert.
I used to live and work along the northern coast of Ahrnem Land spending much of this time living in remote bush camps. The salty in the top picture is the reason that we used to sleep on the backs of our trucks and not in swags on the ground. There is a rich railway history in the top end where the isolated narrow gauge railway that ran from Darwin south to Larrimah is quickly being absorbed back into the rain forest. If you are ever up that way drop into Adelaide River and search out the old station. Cheers PS I take it Steve Irwin is that "Crocidile Hunter" bloke who runs the tourist parks?? I rekon even Crocidile Dundee is more life like.
Lil' Steve Irwin started out entertaining kids with his antics, and still is. He's laughing all the way to the Bank. Good Luck to Him!
