Here's the obligatory introduction. I have many questions as I'm not only new to this forum but I am COMPLETELY new to model railroading. The bug has bitten but I just want to set up the track and watch the train run. I bought the Bachmann Red Rock Santa Fe set for our Sunday School class just to let the younguns have some fun. When the quarter is over I will bring the set home...now here's where the questions start....lots of questions. I guess I better ask those in the designated areas of topic but just wanted to say hello. R. L.
Hello to you and welcome to TrainBoard! All questions welcome. Plenty of folks with all kinds of knowledge and experience. Ask away whenever you are ready.
Welcome! I think you'll get many answers to any questions you pose from a lot of different perspectives. I also think it's great that you're taking the trains to Sunday School, perhaps the bug will bite some more?
Yes Sir! Hot summers, mosquitos and black gumbo to work in but I'm content and have no plans of moving, lol.
Oh yeah, this is good...right off the bat I've got an administrator, a special services coordinator and two members of support team.... nothing like starting off with friends in high places! I'll be doing some searching re track, specifically, Bachmann EZ vs Atlas. As boring as it may seem to the "authentic model railroader", I want to set the track up and run the train. No overwhelming desire for details of scenery, etc....at least not yet. Bachmann EZ track or Atlas? Very much unknown for me at the moment so it will be easier for me to start with what I DO know, which will be a very short list: 1. HO Scale - I want to go HO for sure. 2. 4x8 Layout - I already have an oval but want to add some track for switching. Starting off with two diesel locos. So my big question is: Should I invest in more EZ track, or start from scratch and go with Atlas for the more "real" look. I'm not really concerned with how real the track looks but I'm wondering about later when I want to start adding track. I don't want to get a bundle tied up in one type of track and then have to switch brands because of limited radius etc. Well I hope some of this makes sense.:tb-biggrin:
Welcome aboard! You'll find better luck getting those questions answered by experts in the HO Forum. Charlie
Add Kato Unitrack to your short list and consider using it instead of EZ Track. http://www.katousa.com/HO/unitrack.html
