Longtime train watcher that grew up along the Milwaukee Road tracks about 20 miles west of Milwaukee. I still live a block fron the tracks that now are CP Rail. I work near the Duplainville Diamond and watch many CP and CN trains pass through each day. I think the number is around 25 trains a day on each track!
Welcome to TrainBoard! Maybe some day you can grab us a few photos of action in your vicinity? We have both CN and CP Forums, just ready and waiting.... You mention Duplainville. I am a paperwork collector, specifically train orders. Many years ago, I picked up a Soo Line train order copied at the tower. But the operator/leverman had mis-spelled the station name. I always have wondered if it was a bad day, as they'd written it as "Dulpainville".
Great to have you with us. Sounds like you're living in a spot certain to make many around here jealous, and I'll second the notion that perhaps you can share some of the action.
This is a crazy incident at Duplainville that happened a year before I was born. Later in my adult life I got into the trucking business and the owner of the truck in the crash was still around and some of the local folks that came to help are still in that area and I know them.! Small world. http://www.dupyrail.com/dupcrash.html
That does look like quite a mess, but it sounds like all involved were extremely lucky. On a tangent - passenger trains, Milwaukee Braves and Brooklyn Dodgers? How's that for nostalgia?
This stood in several forms for many many years but eventually was no longer needed and torn down in 1991 :crying:
That seems familiar. Perhaps the Milwaukee Road Historical Association did an article about the crash?
