I started back 1979 with my interest in model railways by building a 6 ft by 4 ft layout over a couple of years. Years later I moved from my large room to a flat with smaller rooms that I had to break down my layout. I got involved with Kennet & Avon Canal Trust Steam Pumping Engines at Crofton for a period and then moved on and became a member of the Severe Valley Railway Society. As I can no longer travel to the preserved railways anymore I decided to start a new model railway layout. With my knowledge of computers and programming I did a lot of investigation on my laptop and viewed YouTube to get me backup to speed. As I don' t have a very big space but I think I will be able to build an N gauge layout in a space about 4.5 feet by just over 2 feet with a helix and two levels, are in my plans. Currently I have made a start with a couple circuits of a track to trial points operated by servos, track sensors for position and occupancy, relays for control of track power. I decided to use DCC and control it with an ARDUINO UNO microcontroller but I am now using a MEGA Board with Motor Shield loaded with the DCC++ BaseStation Sketch and DCC Controller using Processing on my Laptop, software designed and created by Gregg as you can find out about on this site. This is where my interests come from. Keith.
Welcome to TrainBoard! It does sound as though you are well up to speed. So enjoy, and keep us posted as you progress!
Hi Keith, Welcome to the Train Board, and welcome back to modeling trains. Your IT approach sounds interesting, I look forward to watching it progress.
Welcome to trainboard.com I am wondering how you can have a helix in that space. This might be a better idea for you. http://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/summer-shunting-shelf-project.57765/
