I've tried installing the Digitrax SD-40 decoder. (DN136K1B - I think it is) Anyways, its a great fit, even though its backwards. But its dead. Non -responsive. I take the same decoder and install it in an SD-40 frame - it works. My multimeter shows that power is reaching the locomotive frame through the wheels. The decoder contacts fit into those notches in the frame fine. So what gives? What am I screwing up? Thanks.
hmm.. the FP45 runs when the old board is in? motor is ok? make sure the decoder is contacting the frame ok... put it in, and find the board path that comes from the frame contacts and check with the voltmeter there.. sometimes they look like they're in.. but the board doesn't contact the frame well... thus the 'add solder to the tabs' trick a lot of us end up doing.
Thats exactly what my decoder installer friend said. Sometimes the decoder boards are thinner than the original light boards. So solder trick or pinch the frame a bit trick. Thanks a lot sir! 'Preciate!
