Hello everyone! I have the beginning of a plan in mind, and I could use some help with it . It is based on the New York Cross Harbor railroad trackage near Bush terminal, which Google Earth tells me looks like this (schematic, not to scale): The circled area is roughly what I want to model. Parameters: HO scale Layout size: about 4ft by 2ft, excluding small extension for car float and fiddle yard to the left side. Total no more than about 6ft by 4ft. Prototype: NYCH / NYNJR, area: Bush terminal, 1st avenue, between 43rd and 51st street, Brooklyn. Correctness: not prototypical, but prototypically inspired Modelled area: around the car float Max turnouts: 4 or 5 Inspiration: Brooklyn 3:AM by Prof. Klyzlr Operation: highest priority next to visual appeal (so no spaghetti track); small modelled area, rest of prototypical operation to be represented by fiddle yards. Fiddling: constructions like traversers, sector plates, etc. are welcome. Max. train length: 4 40ft cars (car float capacity, 50ft cars optional plus) + 1 four-axle diesel My own first sketch: (area is 6x4ft) The four parallel tracks to the left indicate a traverser, as do the two parallel tracks to the right. The curved stub to the right would be an industry. Now what I'm looking for is other/better possible ways of compressing this prototype to fit my parameters. They are not set in stone, except for the scale (HO). Any help much appreciated!
Bernard Kempinski did a trackplan based on the Bush Terminal in the 2003 edition of Model Railroad Planning. That plan and an ensuing discussion related to it can be seen @ http://therailwire.net/forum/index.php/topic,17809.0.html
