I have inherited a fleet of trains and have grown out of even running my own MTH O Gauge trains and am looking to liquidate. I have a couple vintage train sets, the first one is this Lionel Tin Set. Can someone give me some more information about this? Is it pre or post war? And what war? Is it rare? What would it be worth. Thanks for your help. Your trains are beautiful and are in nice condition. The bottom photo is of a Marx train. The others are of Lionel, made pre-WW-II. As an example, your 252 Electric locomotive was produced from the mid-20s to the mid-30s. To get a notion of their worth, go to eBay, enter in the Lionel item number and look at the Sold/Completed items only. Many of Lionel's items were produced in various colors, so be sure to also match the color of your item when checking its worth. Condition matters too. Your box will likely add a lot of value to your set. Most kids threw the boxes away, so they're rare. Hopefully we have some tinplate fans here who can tell us more. I have the 252 passenger set, same color! From what I’ve found, that set was made between 1929 and 1935. Also have the Sunoco tank car, just don’t recall immediately, what time frame it was made. Personally, wouldn’t mind adding both sets to my collection of “stuff”!
