Hello, I bought a new used train HO size, for some reason it only goes super fast and when I slow it down to the slowest speed, it is still very fast, I was wondering what could be the problem? Thank you. W.
DC or DCC? If you don't have a digital system, somehow your train is getting high voltage to the rails continuously, and not controlled voltage that you would see from a functioning DC train control mechanism....one with a rheostat. You usually dial up the voltage by rotating a knob on the face of the controller. If it's DCC, your throttle may have maximum speed set on it already and you need to reduce it, or you have a sensitive decoder that is in 'dual mode', meaning it can sense DC current, but it thinks the full voltage to the rails that your DCC system is placing there is really DC current....so it zips along at that full DCC voltage. You need to alter the setting in CV29 to a value of 34 if the loco has a long address, or 2 if it's a short address (less than 128).
You must tell us what loco or locos do this. If you have a second loco and it does the same thing, it's in the control system. If it's only 1 loco then it's the loco that's the problem.. What engine (s) are you talking about. Make? What scale; HO, N, other ? What control are you using ? Single, analog DC power pack, or DCC digital system ? Otherwise how can we cure the problem ? Have you fixed it yet ?
