I just got back from Illinois. I was attending a Christian Youth Event in Peoria. I got the chance to see lots of trains, and take one back to Milwaukee, from Springfield.

Here's a question for anyone who's been in Peoria..

I saw a bunch of red, white, and blue locomotives in Peoria. What RR do they belong to? A Peoria shortline?? I'v never seen them before.

    The Amtrak ride..

was great! I saw a few UP wings(the first I've ever seen in person) in Chicago. I also saw some BNSF action, and of course Amtrak. Well, that's all I can remember for now, If I have more thoughts, I'll psot 'em [IMG]

    Hey CPRailfan,

Sounds like the Toledo, Peoria and Western. I don't know much about it but it's part of Railamerica - since 1999 from the info on the web site.

The last time I saw a TP&W loco, they were painted in "NYC Lightning Stripe Grey". The P&PU has "Sky and Light Blue" Locos. The I&M, "Orange Yellow and Black". Red White and Blue, I don't know what those would of been. My only question I have is this, why did you take the train from Springfield back home? Lincoln, or better yet, Bloomington-Normal would of been closer for you.

maybe he wanted to! and by the way the red white and blues were tpw's. railamerica's paint scheme is just that. you might see 1 or 2 of the old "tip-ups" in the yard but not on road assignments anymore. if you have a chance next time in peoria travel into e. peoria and go down washington street and look at the tpw graveyard with 20 to 25 engines stored there waiting scrapping. if you go on up washington st. to the town of creve coeur, the ppu peoria, pekin and union rr yard is on wesley rd.they have several peoria loco works rebuilds and a few of plw's own style switch engines. all with cat diesel powerplants. this is where i run to on the train for the ns is from decatur, il. to the ppu. if you get a chance to see the ppu's diesel shop the are several railroads who park power there from the up to the ns and bnsf and ic. and also the imrl also has the green and red paint also from the old c&im units brent. also in peoria s a very cool lift bridge on the illinois river run by the ppu dispatcher.

    CPRailfan,

Is this what the locomotives looked like?

This isn't the TP&W though, it's the E&N. Taken by Mick Hall.

-Thanks Rob. From what everyone else is saying, that's the railroad. I thought they looked like RA locos when I first saw 'em.

-Brent, good question [IMG] I went from Peoria to Springfield Sunday afternoon. I decided to stay the night at my relatives' place, and catch the 6:32 out of Springfield on Monday mornin'. Only problem with Springfield is..my coat's still down there. That's were I left it [IMG] Hopefully my relatives will mail it back up.

-MoPac, thanks for all teh info. Who knows when I'll be back in Peoria..maybe 2003?? But when I'm back, I'll be sure to spend some more time by the yards.

-L&N, those may have been the locos, I'm not 100% sure. I saw 'em across the freeway, so all I knew was that they were red, white, and blue.

    -------

-In Chicago, I saw a UP engine with "UPY" on it. Anybody know what that means?

-I also got a picture of myself, standing with three girls from Springfield ;) in front of an Amtrak train at Chi Town Union Station. When I get 'em developed, I'll post em'.
