This my new first message to let you know that old little 4 axles locos E.424 class are all stored, last 2 yesterday. Those beautifull locos where built in 1940 for local passenger serveices; most of them are still in service as push-pull rebuilt locos, but the original brown ones are all lined up for scrap. For more infos contact me at my e-mail or visit my site: www.photorail.com Bye, Stefano Paolini
Stefano, Welcome to trainboard, thanks for posting your site I really enjoyed looking at the pictures you have of infrastructure. We have a forum called "More than trains" that focusses on everything other than trains that appears on the railroad. Maybe you could post some of your pictures there? You certainly have a great site thanks for sharing it with us, I look forward to seeing more of your posts. If you have any questions about this site you can post in the Administration forum or feel free to email me.
Hello Stefano, a very warm welcome to Trainboard Good to have another european here! I have bookmarked your site, so I can check back often. We were in Italy on holiday earlier this year, but did not see many trains, as we were in the Sorrento area, so only rode the Circumvesuviana trains to Pompeii, etc. On previous holidays we had been to Venice, also Peschiera on lake Garda, and saw some trains in those places. I would love to see more, as they are most unusual! Please post some of your pics here
I hope that one or two of the "brown bomber" E424s are preserved as it would be sad if they are all scrapped. I have been on two holidays to Italy in the last year and saw quite a lot of the railways on the coast section in Liguria between Spezia and Genoa, especially in the Cinque Terre at Monterosso and Vernazza. I like your website although the pictures were rather slow to load and I didn't have time to wait and see them all. Ben
Yes Ben! A unit - n°015 - will be preserved for heritage traction, will standing in Alessandria's depot. Stefano
I have not seen many Italian locomotives, but they look very interesting. Here is one I snapped through the bus window as we, and the train, were leaving Venice.
That one you took from the bus is an E.646, built in 60's for express services and now just on push-pull trains. All these locomotive are now in new FS livery but one, which has been re-painted in old green-grey and is an unofficial heritage loco. For more shots, check my site : FS > electric locos > E.646 Enjoy and thanks! Stefano
