I had trains as a child in the UK and then nothing until having my own kids, my oldest son 3.5yo loves trains and as we live in Canada he likes the diesels he see's around but his first love is steam engines. He obviously likes Thomas the Tank engine and his favourite loco is actually Hiro, a Japanese train based on a D51. I have purchased lots of Unitrack and have a small 50inch x 34inch layout in progress. I recently purchased a Digitrax DCS50 for DCC and now I need some DCC loco's, I have an Alco C440 on its way to me now with sound and I purchased a Micro Ace D51 used off ebay but I believe it is very difficult to convert to DCC.

I guess I will be spending most of my time in the N scale threads.

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

Be sure to explore the many corners of our site. Groups, blogs, photos and more. There is N scale everywhere. Also check other forums such as the Inspection Pit for modeling tips, ideas, techniques. Who knows where a good inspiration may be found? :)

Sounds like you're off to a good start. Has the young'un shown any interest in Brio? I know both of mine, and now my granddaughter, have had fun arranging and rearranging their own little empires on the floor at different times. Glad to have you along.

Welcome aboard. If your son is partial to steam, I wonder if there is an N scale model of CP 2816 on the market? I am not a modeler so don't really know. The real thing is quite a beautiful restoration and is based in Calgary.
