I recently retired and want to get back into model railroading. Pretty much starting from scratch. We moved into a new home in October, 2012 and I have limited space; would like to set up an N-Scale layout in maybe a 2x4 space. I am still trying to decide whether to model RF&P, Chessie or N&W (my wife's hometown is Roanoke). I love the sleek N&W 611 but it may be too long for a small layout. I also once modeled a "wild western town and railroad". I am currently doing a lot of research and am thoroughly enjoying it, but need to decide whether to go with current era (diesel) or steam (like the old time trains)...if steam, it'll have to be to use a small locomotive to fit in the tight curves. There appears to be a wealth of ideas and knowledge on this forum. Thanks in advance. Royce
Welcome aboard Royce! Whichever era you settle on, I'm sure you'll enjoy...as a side note, have you checked out the Richmond Area NTrak group? Could be a great source of inspiration and, if they interest you, a chance to run some of the bigger stuff.
Welcome to Trainboard. Yeah there are a lot of active N scale folks in Northern Virginia. I met with some of them down in Danville a few years ago and had fun running trains.
Hi Royce, Welcome to the TrainBoard, glad to have you on board. Looking forward to seeing whatever you come up with.
