I wondered why there were special no parking signs in town. Here's the answer. There was a transport for a transformator exchange. They loaded from rail to street in our village Hennen. Street transport Friday night at 10 pm, four hours. The old transformator comes back at Saturday night 10 pm with arrival in Hennen four hours later. The heavy transport brings a weight of 430 tons on the road, 4.9 meters high, 61 meters long! Unfortunately I didn't catch the load itself. But I found at the news one. You see the tranformator as well as the street route: Ruhr Nachrichten my pictures
This is a big job! Even for me on my model layout. :teeth: I see the two multi wheeled bogies to carry the load. Are they building a new switch for these bogies and the load to access the main? Will this parallel track just be temporary? How will they transfer the load? With more pictures tomorrow, we will see. Sixty meters long...a lot!
There was a turnout 30 years ago. Together with team track and side ramp. The ramp is long gone and overgrown. But they kept the team track without connection. I guess the bent the rails in the night. You see the flood lamps they used. I found at the Ruhr Nachrichten a picture from the load with two street engines and a map. Look at my homepage and there for blog. Wolfgang
For a siding that will only get very occasional use (like the delivery of a transformer every couple of years) it probably makes sense to do an operation like this. More work than throwing a switch, but think of the saved wear and tear from not having high speed trains running over the frog and the points many times each day.
This appears to be the EON Energie Type Uaai 687.9 wagon. The load is moved from the wagon to truck transport with the ends of the wagon are still attached to the load. There are photos of this car on my web site along with the trucks that are used when load needs to move over the roads. http://southern.railfan.net/schnabel/cars/db687/687.html I have some photos that show the process of the transfer from rail to road mode on a larger Railion Type Uaai 838 wagon. Hydralic jacks are placed under the load to raise it enough where the ends (truck or rail) can be removed, and the other ends placed under the load. Then the load is lowered. http://southern.railfan.net/schnabel/cars/db24/db.html Nice shot Wolfgang - did you get any more, what was the load? These are my favorite type of cars/wagons. Tom
I've just uploaded the pictures from today. High Wide Heavy. You see the rail car and the empty street cars. Wolfgang
