These locos...normally sit behind the gates of a large chemical plant...but today they poked their "heads" out today along the UP spur into their plant...they appear to be former CN locos...based on the really faded paint scheme...lettered for "CANAC", a subsidary of Savgage Industries...an Industrial switching company...appear to be some sort of a "kitbash" with a SW cab...and a GP7/9 engine body/chassis.
Great shots! They are certainly unique looking locos. I agree with your assessment of the body parts, but don't know what their technical specs are. Harold
Very interesting looking locomotives Are they a bit short to have used GP frames? What trucks are those, not the usual Blombergs on GP7/9's. A terrific kitbashing project for a model railroad
Alan- Those are Flexicoil trucks. And they were supposedly used on a few CN GP9 units. I believe light weight versions for branch service. But what are these units? Are they the light weight units themselves. it looks like old CN paint? Boxcab E50
I believe these units are nicknamed "Sweeps" since that are Geeps with SW cabs. I believe these are classified as SW1200RM's. Were these built at CN Point St. Charles shops?
I don't know about you guys, but those don't look anything like switcher cabs, they look like the GEEP cab with a new wall fabbed on the bac. Were these rebuilds or actual GMD units?
From what I can tell, they look like the CN rebuilds, classified as GS-413. They are 1300 h.p. switchers that has SW1200RS frames and GP9 hoods. They were rated at 1300 hp. I am not an expert; they look similar to units pictured in the Contemporary Diesel Spotters guide. Harold
I thought it was from around here... we have Interstates 85 & 95 that meet near Henderson NC... Harold
Sorry Harold for any confusion...it's here in Henderson, NV...off US 95...just a stones through from Sin City.
