I've been searching a little while now for an HO scale Hiawatha locomotive and tender...

Does anyone know of a make and model out there?

I've found a couple O and G size but no HO.

    Is there such a thing?

Thanks for the warm welcome :teeth:

I'm starting to suspect that no one has made this steamer in HO gauge yet... BUT - I have hope!

    I think you're right.
Do you have a prototype picture? Sometimes it helps. I'm too far away to help.

That's a fine lookin' engine! Rivarossi did a bunch of the streamliners a while ago - Blue Goose, some of the NYC ones, but I do not know if they included the Hiawatha... :(

There's lots more great streamliners that need modelling...! ;)

    Rivarossi DID make it!

And I found some on a very popular auction site...

I tried to link it, but I think these forums filter that since my post got stripped ;)

    Now to get one!

Yes, but look at the prices! For Rivarossi? Maybe if you're desperate...

I think there ought to be a "lobbying" arm of the NMRA, to try to persuade manufacturers that there are markets for things like the Hiawatha -- especially that super-cool observation car with the "skylights" -- and the new "Heritage" paint scheme starting to appear on some KCS diesels.[IMG]

Is it out of production? I'm pretty sure it is which would explain the price.

One of the first issues of Model Railroader that I remember reading was the 50th anniversary issue where they took a Hiawatha engine and ran in on a number of popular layouts of the time. I think it was a plastic engine at the time.

That issue was from 1984 I think.

I think they have been in production since 1984. I saw an add for this 4-6-4 Baltic, as well as several versions of the NYC Hudson, advertised in a late 90's/early 00 Model Railroader. It was a three page spread that Rivarossi paid $$$$$$ for so it can't be too recent, given the R's financial issues the past several years.

I think it was just and NYC frame, with the Hiawatha body on it. It was a very limited edition run. The price in the mag was between $300-$400, if my memory serves me, which it usually doesn't. That's a chunk of change for a "not quite accurate" plastic model, that is still a Rivarossi at heart. Think GM rebadging a Cavalier as a Cadillac. I know Samsohonga produced the MILW version as well as the CNW version, back in the day (90's).

I haven't purchased one yet... the prices on ebay have been rather steep (especially for a plastic model) and I've not found a reputable dealer that has one for sale yet.

I'll keep searching tho... maybe one of those Samsohonga models cmstpmark described will pop up one day and I can nab it.

If the prices on the Riv are steep, the prices on the brass Samsohonga will be downright precipitous. I know they were several thousand dollars new. But, they looked real nice!

During the 1960's AHM, imported a brass unstreamlined Baltic. I believe it was built by KMT, in Japan. I know a streamlined Baltic was imported at the same time by someone else, (Tenshodo?), but can't be sure of the maker.

Until the Korean model came out, these were the only accurate models available.
