Doesn't make sense to skip Exactrail as they are a major current manufacturer. Also, I see Mckean/Front Range all the time. Kits are a pain in the rear, but nice.
I was thinking about what is being made currently, but yes, at train shows there seem to be a lot of people dumping their old unbuilt kits they never got around to building. This is why when people whine about the lack of Athearn, MDC, and other kits not being manufactured, I always have the answer ready that I see tons of this stuff at cheap prices at train shows. Shops? Not so much, but shops seem to be closing every time we turn around.
Oh my goodness....I'm finally an official OLD TIMER By the way, could you young studs lower the prices on that junk at the train shows? Fixed income is a pain....
I really wish the youngsters who never even saw real Mantua stuff wouldn't lump it all together. As bad as someone calling Life-Like "Varney". Oh, well. Dave
Exactrail platinum rolling stock is the best. Tangent cars look to be the same, but I don't own any. Second place would be Atlas's master line and Athearn genesis cars, those I have.
Athearn, Bowser, Accurail, Atlas,Intermountain and Walthers all make excellent freight cars. One change to all of them is to use ONLY Kadee trucks and couplers.
In my humble opinion Tangent Scale Models put out the best Rollingstock and that is not list in your options. But the agrument could be made that it depends on the type Rollingstock we're talking about. Different companies seem to specialize in one or two types
I have some older Mantua that I like a lot. Lots of Athearn too, probably what I have the most of and am pleased with it. Lots of Rivarossi too. Some of it I like a lot. Some of it makes me crazy. Rick H.
