OK, so I got a few gift cards for Christmas and turned them into a pair of Atlas articulated auro racks today. Got them home, and had to assemble them. Not too hard actually. Great detail underneath them also. Heres the dilemma, they have these little diameter washer headed screws that hold the center trucks onto the center piece. This screw is way smaller than the ones in the trucks on the outer edges of the cars, and the trucks are normal size like the outer ones (exact replacements for them).
Does anyone else have one or more of these cars here? Were the screws you got for the center smaller also?
I don't like and don't trust them for long periods of running. They don't countersink into the trucks, and they only bite off about 3/4's of a thread turn when screwed all the way in. I think if I were to change them out to a 2-56 1/4" or larger screw, it would make me more comfortable with them. They roll great like they are, as long as the truck doesnt have to turn on the centerpiece, but they just seem way too under strength for the application they are to handle. The outer cars rest on top of the truck, as they pivot on the center piece truck itself not the center piece (just like a set of well cars, it uses the truck for support), and the center piece is above those two parts and is stationary.
Any suggestions? I emailed Atlas, but of course, its the holidays, and probably wont get a response till March...:tb-cool:
