What I need a sprue cutter, cupler hight gauge, spreader to put the wheels on and a general HO gauge. To assemble the six Tichy Train Group flat cars. I need to do that so I can pull them with the gift I received last night. A Rivarossi Heisler: I don't know if it's DC or DCC. There is a sheet with instructions to disassemble and shows where to inert a digital decoder inplace of the analog decoder. AF
Getting toward end-days on the static model of #168: The tender is just stacked for the picture, need to find screws for the trucks and add the ladder, air tank and a few other details. It's also gray because I finally ran out of black resin; gonna use gray from now on so's I can see what I'm printing. Now, I need to start thinking of painting. Not likely to paint this article, will completely print new a full set of parts (21 at last count) for assembly and painting. A Neighbor gave me his airbrushing setup complete with a small compressor, need to build a paint booth that works with my resin printer ventilation. Well, need to retrieve the airbrush setup; my kid is using it to paint Star Trek ship models...
Thanks! It's been said that these kits are garbage and the gearboxes and motor need to be replaced to get a working model. Here is a video of the chassis running with all original parts. The motor is a little noisy but this piece of test track is not quality so there is no noise dampening. I may replace it with a can motor and flywheel but just wanted to show that the kit contents are capable of producing a decent model.
Just finished stripping the CNR herald off of this BLI Mikado and re-lettering it to Canadian Pacific. I left the CNR number on the cab. I'm not sure if I am going to change that or not. Next I have two Shays that need Canadian Pacific decals. Hoping to get those done tonight.
Just got the water car over-sprayed and Tom Holley gave me another great idea: a weed spray train. It's underway but has a long ways to go. Anyone who knows anything about weed sprayer trains, please chime in. From what Tom said, just about anything goes when it comes to MOW equipment. They used whatever they had laying around to make what they needed. The primer colored tank may not be used. It's too large in diameter. I made it out of couple of pieces of scrap 1" PVC that was laying around. The Solvay tank car--which has already had the lettering stripped--may take the place of the large diameter home made tank car. Anyway, here is the beginning.
A few more progress pics. Since I've built one of these in C&O livery, I've decided that this will actually be a Virginian Blue Ridge, so some of the details are little different than the C&O.
Thanks! I thought i had a front end throttle, bells, and number boards in reserve but I was wrong. I ordered those and a few other detail parts and hopefully by the end of the week she may be painted.
The single conclusion I came to after studying railroad weed sprayers is that there is no conclusion: pretty much anything goes. The one I am building is sort of a conglomeration of ideas I found in photos in combination with what I could find in my parts box. The tank car silver will be toned down with dull coat and weathering. My supply of silver is getting low so I used Testor's Aluminum metalizer. It's pretty bright, but will be ok (I hope) when it's done. The spray boom and wings still have to be created; some more piping will be on the end with the gasoline engine that drives the pump (pump and accessories are in the pump house); will get QA&P lettering and quite a bit of overspray. After all, a weed sprayer would have over spray!!!
Hot damn that's gorgeous! Almost a shame to paint it black, the primer really shows off all the detail.
Your reply actually made me laugh out loud! The primer really does show all the detail but we've come too far to stop now!!!
She is gorgeous, but that's just her underwear (where all the details show...). She needs her little black dress to be presentable on the main line! Keep it up, JimmyZ!
The weed sprayer is just about done. A little touch-up here and there and some weathering and it will be complete.
Little black dress applied with some white accents. Ready for decals but won't be able to finish up this weekend. Ran out of paint, so I need to order some to finish up the tender. I'm really a fan of Tru-Color paints and pretty much all I use these days.
Not really my workbench. But I got some shelves put up above the layout to display some stuff. the 2nd from the bottom is a Saskatchewan Roughrider collectable that Franklin mint put out and charged way to much for. it was supposed to have eight pieces in all, but they stopped making them after the four you see. What a rip off. But I'm a die hard Rider fan, so there it is. The bottom set holds a special place in my heart. It is a Tyco set that is exactly the same one as the first trainset I ever had. I saw it at a train show, in the original box! I asked the guy what he wanted for it and he said $70. I had the money in his hand before he finished that sentence. Once the transaction was done I told him about it being the first set I ever had. He looked at me and said "so you would have paid a lot more for it wouldn't you?" I admitted I would have paid whatever it took. We had a good laugh about that. The other two are just things I came across that I thought were cool.
