For those that frequent buy/sell lists, I'd like to offer HO Swap. http://dir.groups.yahoo.com/group/HOswap/?v=1&t=directory&ch=web&pub=groups&sec=dir&slk=11 It's a relaxed group that's easy to post on. I have no affiliation with them but there may be others, like myself, who find issue with the picking of nits and rude behaviour from some buy/sell lists and look for something easier to interact with. This is of course, in addition to the trainstore here on trainboards (which if you've looked over it, you ought to check it out).
Apparently there was an HO Swap before and they revamped it. I've been on it for little over a year so I don't know the full story. Bought and sold several things on it with great experiences so far.
HOYARDSALE has alot of members but you have to abide by the owners "rules" to the T or you'll get deleted post haste. LOL Here's all the Yahoo Group buying/selling forums I'm on w/ +100 members (some started by deleted HOYARDSALE members ): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Backshop/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HOswap/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hoswap2/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HOSWAPSHOP/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HOTrainProductsForSale/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rrmediayardsale/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rrStuff4sale/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/trainsandstuff/
I belong to HOYard Sale, and have had good dealings. Haven't sold anything yet, but I see nothing wrong with making an accurate, detailed description of what I would be selling. But that's just me.............YMMV.
I mentioned HOSwap as an alternative for people who want to interact with others on a conversational level. While I don't see a problem with wanting specific part numbers cited, if that's what you are in to, but for most of us, simply describing what you are after is sufficient. I particularly think HOSwap (and others potentially) are good for the average hobbyist to post for sale ads, want ads or even trade ads using the same nomenclature that you would with friends. I've been on HOSwap for over a year and have both bought and sold many items using common speech with great success. In that time, no one has felt the need to be rude or even use coarse language. It runs exceptionally well and no need to stress on the minute details that can be handled person to person. Mainly just wanted to let others in HO know of some options out there that are fun and generally family friendly for those that prefer that type of environment.
<<HOYARDSALE has alot of members but you have to abide by the owners "rules" to the T or you'll get deleted post haste. LOL>> See also "dictatorship" Got tired of it, quit, joined several others on the previously mentioned list.
Just trying to be "polite". The great one is probably lurking here to see the comments made about him & dreaming up ways to get even. LOL
Have to have a little patience waiting for approval on some groups. 2-3 days is not that unusual. Most of the Yahoo Group moderators/owners have real 40 hr/wk jobs & also modelers like us.
Perhaps, perhaps not.......but what say we keep things on the civil side? Trainboard is not about bashing every other forum on the 'Net.
Was looking for HO Yard Sale but am having trouble finding the sign-up page. Do you have a link to sign up for that group?
My point was only meant to be "caveat emptor" (let the buyer beware). That Yahoo Group has been "bashed" before on this & many other forums for very good reasons.
Perhaps, but why continue? Just saying......... Now, please excuse me while I get my grill cleaned out in preparation for a backyard cookout........it's July 4th, ya know...
Just one of the purposes of forums like TrainBoard is to help each other avoid certain bad experiences w/ model railroading.
Re: Other Groups- A thoughtfully written caveat emptor is one thing. Bashing is another. Both, we'd prefer kept to an absolute minimum, even better not at all. BoxcabE50 TrainBoard Administrator
