Real ugly locomotive. Wonder if anyone has ever built one and powered it. Parts, no instructions, exploded diagrams and photos. Was a real loco at one time before UP cab forwards.

I've seen photos of the kit. But it was not something ever of interest for me.

Too expensive for me. I guess you need a lot of work with the driving unit. Gears and motor...

When Wiseman first put it on ebay, he didn't advertise (as he now does) about all of the parts being available separate. The NPC had some really beautiful equipment, but this is by far my least favorite. I have a friend whom has built a live steam version in 1:20.3.

I've thought about getting the drivers from him for some unplanned HOn3 4-4-0 project. Here's a prettier NPC engine...

If I get an MMI locomotive, it will be the Sonoma in On3.

I've looked at that kit several times. I may get one before too long, just for the heck of it. :tb-biggrin: I like ugly locos, like this, the CF-7, SP's K-M's..

Of course, I'd like one of these too... [IMG]

Run it with a mixed freight.

Recently, someone announced that they will make brass frames for the model kit. The cast white metal frames of the kit are the potentially weakest part in my view. It should become a nice working model with a stronger frame........ and maybe replacement brass trucks as well.

I hope I did this post properly. It's my first time using this forum's editor.

There is an original of these in Switzerland, imported from South Africa. It runs on 2' (60cm) track. Thus would have to be HOn2 in a model.

Isn't there an even smaller version in Wales? WHR?

I have no idea, but to me it's rather the opposite that's of interest. Such a large engine on such narrow tracks.

An aspect that also intrigues me when I think about the DRGW K engines.

Actually, it's another of the same engines (the NGG13/16 class) that's in Wales.

    Garret

This style of loco is a "Garrett" and they were (are) popular and used all over south africa and australia. I'm no expert but there are many verities and they represent a major class of locomotive.

For a North American fan, it's disappointing that few large Mallets survived into relatively modern times anywhere in the world. And that's because most non-US Mallets were narrow gauge tank engines as the design was originally conceived for, and because the Garratt replaced the Mallet in many countries.
