Is N scale track used for HOn3?

Our company is moving into new premises and I have some space for a small layout in my office. I'm contemplating a small, simple, roundy-roundy type of mountain-y layout and HOn3 came to mind. I'll probably buy one or two small locos and a few pieces of rolling stock. What is the tightest realistic curve to plan on (assuming this project actually moves forward)?

Most folks I know of, are buying pre-made, or hand laying their HOn3 track.

    Hi William,
It's close, but no. HOn3 track is 10.5mm gauge, which represents true 3 foot gauge in HO scale. HO scale trains that run on N scale (9mm gauge) track is called HOn30, because the gauge of N scale track works out to 30 inches in HO scale. HOn30 is commonly called HOe in Europe and Japan.

As for minimum radius (for either HOn3 or HOn30), it will depend greatly on to size of locomotive and rolling stock you intend to use. As a general rule of thumb, the shorter the equipment you run the tighter radius curves you can have.

    Good Luck!

Well, actually, Micro Engineering sells some pretty good looking flex track and turnouts (IIRC they only sell #6's) in code 40, 55, and 70, and also pre-weathered or 'clean' track sections. But you will be in a predicament when It comes to motive power and rolling stock, that is the expensive stuff. A Blackstone B2/3 stock car costs about twice as much as an HO standard gauge stock car, or about as much as a cheap HO or N scale loco. And blackstone K-27's, aren't bad, $337 for one with DCC and sound, and $220 for a regular DC one. :tb-confused:
