I do apologize for mentioning a particular on line retailer. I was just using it as an example. With no hobby shops at all in my area, I use numerous on line retailers all dependent on if they have the item I want in stock.

Send me a private message (removed email link) There we can discuss anything we want.

There's reasons for the policies here and we can work with that.

Code 83 scales out to 126-132 pound rail, which is what most current mainlines use. 52 pound is very light weight rail, only used on light branch lines.

Important pro-sectional, curved track info addenda: I found that since in HO we don't want to go smaller than 18" rad. curves, the Atlas sectional curves which are offered in 18" Rad. work really well in the tightest of track real estate. I built a 'wye' on a peninsula just wide and long enough for it and an engine house, plus one station on one stub-end leg of this wye..(layout is gone now but this leg angled into a rear wall as if going off in the distance).. Furthermore, if you look closely, the spike head depiction on the sectional track is way better than the flex..Theory: Flex track requires heavier spike heads to grasp the spiralled shapes we give it, along with its one sliding-rail requirement and one fixed rail. The sectional ain't going to be reshaped.. I wish they could make the spike heads small as their sectional track are...

that's good to know. very good to know.
right now I am still in the design phase of my layout. I want to figure out at least the basic design so I can start the foundation.
besides, I have a bit of cleaning to do in my "electronics workshop" to make room. I seem to have acquired a futon in one corner, that just needs to go.

'52' was a typo ! Meant to write 152 pound...I've savvied this since 1957....And though code 83 is passable, I wish Atlas would come out with code 70, HO flex. Why not when they already make N scale 55...! Maybe inject those rails into HO, delrin ties..(would maybe even scale out closer to secondary/branch line, yard, industrial spur rail, for HO...I also wish Atlas and other flex track manufacturers would stop putting mounting holes in the middle..It sucks when spiking with cork underneath with the split in the middle of its two halves. Staggering these holes closer to the tie plates would be great. ..M

Edited my own post (above). But don't get why it changed from normal size black print to small print and in the pink box. What happened ?

You missed the 'edit' button and hit the 'quote' button instead.

Which also explains how it wound up on page two. I think you'll find that the original, on page one, didn't get edited at all.
