I got a Bar Mills wooden structure kit at a swap meet to try out. It's going fairly well but I'm at a point were I need to mount a heavy cast metal chimney into a sloped card stock roof. I got the hole cut out so it fits pretty good and can be mounted so it sits vertically in the steeply sloped roof, but what do people typically do to affix the chimney in the hole permanently? Epoxy maybe? The instructions are good but don't mention the chimney at all. Thank-you!

Yeah, epoxy may work. How tall is the structure? Is it easy to see inside? Depending on how heavy the chimney casting is, I would be wary of mounting it to the roof. Over time, those cardstock roof sheets may warp under the weight.

Instead of relying on the roof to support it, can you prop it up with a rectangular column? It may not be as detailed as the upper casting, but having a column go all the way to the ground would be more realistic than floating masonry.

That’s a pretty good idea that I hadn’t thought of! I put dullcote on the backs of the windows so the inside can’t be viewed. It’s a 2 story building with a short stone base under it.

I reinforce the roof with wooden strips on 2 sides of the hole, then I have something to glue the chimney to as well.
