Um, are you trying to say you don't need any?

If you saw how much that I have and am contemplating on purchasing you would think that I am nuts. I lost count last year of what I actually got. I just keep adding stuff.

    ONE.

You need only one engine. The one, you're driving to have fun. And it should be top level running, looking, all.

Holy crap am I that much of a chronic? I was actually cutting back lately. [IMG]

I wonder, was that blank one my 2000th.

Grey, was going to say something and then decided not to. Yes, I am partial to the less is more way of thinking. These days I am refining my fleet. I do not need every engine I have.

How many we need and how many we have are two different things. I got about 75 locos and 400 pieces of rolling stock. I'm trying to thin out some of the stuff I bought to repaint in my roads as the manufacturers keep releasing more New England stuff that has improved detail and DCC ready. I guess its a never ending battle, but I like it!!

    Well
    If -
Anyone is selling thier surplus UP stuff
    And -
    1) I get a good job
    2) They don't mind me "de Borging" it
    Then -
    Maybe I would be interested

My steam loco inventory has increased by two in the past year; diesels by about a dozen. I have 23 steamers already with decoders or slated for them. I have a bunch of old steamers (including Big Boys) that I'll probably get rid off in a few months.

I've got 46 diesels with decoders. All the rest will be sold off later this year. There's probably 50 or so.

I guess I have a few steam loco's on the roster.

25 need decoders. Fourteen of the 25 are Kato Mikado's.

Most of my diesels have decoders installed.

About 12 need decoders where the frames have to be milled.

    Oooops
Occurs to me that in the last 2 weeks I have ordered:
    2 Soon to be X UP SD 60s - (at $50 each + "de-borging" cost, how could I resist?)
    2 Soon to be F45s - SD40s - Grant Sar kits - How could I resist?
1 FA/FB1 set (for $39 including shipping how could I resist?)

In short: How could I resist?

    //Man I hope I get that job

Edit: Oh no, Bob (PSG) says there will be a GG1 in N by the end of the year! I'm doomed, Doomed, Doooommmmed

I counted my Kato locos this morning after finishing some work on one and it's up to 42. but that doesn't include some UP units waiting to do the strip job. :D

Convince yourself (as I have) that it's an INVESTMENT [IMG] .....(that works on the wife).
After ready this topic, I could resist looking at my inventory and doing some [IMG] "number syphering" .... Whoa, I spend more on this hobby than some nations do on Health Care.

    Right, IN-VEST-MENT.

But seriously, what to do when you have three favorite prototypes and two of them were prone to "couple up the ready track" for power - an unpredictable mix of makes and models.

Well, you buy a lot of engines for a small layout so that you can duplicate the prototype.

yes there are 2 UP dash 9's that will soon be C&NW one already is and the other is waiting for gas, plus a U30C that will also become C&NW and a SD45 which will be BN with C&NW markings.
as for road names....... well just for the Katos we have
    C&NW
    CGW
    WC
    ATSF/BNSF
    NS
    SP
    CP
    CN
    CR
    CSX

some off those will be repainted/patched (ie CR) the 3 CSX locos will go to the paint booth soon and become
    -9 - NS Dash9-40C
    U30C - C&NW (need a pair)
    SD80 - NS

My primary modeling interest is in the Seaboard Air Line, 1957-1967. In order to model their mainline power requires 33 locos of 14 different models (F3's, GP7's, etc.), not including switchers, 4 locos - 3 models.

Unfortunately, for ACL, most manufacturers love the purple and silver, not the "black maria" colors more suitable for my era - but, I'll still buy 'em if they're prototypical.

Southern, the same as ACL, but green and white were getting real scarce by the early 1960's - but guess what, green and white or the "tuxedo colors", make 'em prototypical and you've got a buyer in me.
