Not all laminate flooring is created equal. some of it is similar to a vinyl coating over thin plywood, great for looks, not so good for walking on. I used to work in a plant that made it, we used 1/8 inch hardwood that had a polymer resin forced into the wood by pressure then hit it with low level gamma radiation, to seal it. That stuff was hard as a rock, we went through sanding belts like crazy, but once we were done the finish was glass smooth. Alan
