    Charlie, The 10:00 news tonight ( channel 5 NBC) said those of us using free internet service will have to seek an alternative, because ( .com) has announced they are shutting down the .com aaccess. He said that includes Belo who owns the station! Wont that affect a number of us here on the Board?
    Jan and I pay a fee for flash.net so are OK I think.

    Charlie, I'm trying hard to follow the rules and clean up after myself when I make a BooBoo and take up a lot of space. Its embarrassing for me to be so dumb, so please don't tell anyone, or print this in the news paper, and what ever you do, don't announce my wetting my pants over the air! Sob Sob [IMG]

    Wayne;

    There are no rules about cleaning up after yourself. Don't worry about space.

    You have it a little confused (I think) about the free access. Some people (I don't know who would put up with the slow speed and advertising) use free dial up services (such as Alta Vista) to connect to the Internet. Alta Vista (and a couple of others) are pulling the plug on the free dial up. This will not affect any other aspect of their operation. I'm sure that if we have anyone on the TrainBoard with free Internet access that is losing their dial up, that they can afford the normally under $20 a month for regular access or a connection through their cable company or other provider. This announcement means nothing to us as a web site.

    Now back to our regularly scheduled thread topic ...

    Man, that's a relief! I was afraid you and I would end up having to carry this whole Board on your shoulders! Me to foul up, and you to foul down. Ha.
    I hear it is so cold up there, that you have to thaw out the air waves so people can hear you!
    Speaking of which; several years ago, before anyone seriously got into train sounds, I recorded some huffing and chuffing and tootin' onto 4 track tape. Then I set the player under the layout, and tried it out. It was great and happened to be in sync with a 4-8-4 I was running at about 40 mph. At that time I had a friend who I called to come over and see my new set up. (Let me skip to when he got there-). He looked the new engine over, then I backed it up around a curve out of sight for a "run by". I got her up to 40 and as she hove into view I reached under and slowly turned the volumn up as if it was getting closer! The effect was fine and he was impressed, thinking it was coming from the new engine. Until- (Go back now-) I had previously recorded some very old world Ohoom PaPa music a friend in Germany had sent me. Well, you get the idea, It is very difficult for a 4-8-4 to chug at 3/4 time and my friend just howled! [IMG]
