Hi everyone! My name is Chuck. I have been into model trains on and off for most of my life....and over the last 3-ish years have been working on a pretty decent sized layout. Progress is slow! I struggle with overthinking stuff when planning-should I put this here? If I put it there, this building could go here, but then I have to move that over there.....etc. That is usually the reason for the slow progress. I am DCC HO. No particular era, although I do want it to lean more towards modern times, but the structures and buildings are harder to come by that are more modern. I very much enjoy the aspect of modeling, probably more than actually running trains. Bringing the topography to life with color, terrain, foliage, is an amazing transformation! Anyway, like many of you, my time will likely be spent doing other season appropriate activities as the weather SLOWLY turns (Ohio). I'll get some pictures and what not of my layout. What topic heading is the best place to do that? SC
Welcome to TrainBoard! Probably the first choice for your photos would be via starting a topic in our HO Forum. Also, really helpful in following along, is often a track plan sketch.
Hi Chuck, welcome. I agree, over-thinking can be a problem. Sooner or later you realize that nothing is permanent, that you can remove, tear up, and do it again to your new concept. Giving yourself permission to do that takes time. Took me sixty years, but now I have a layout that I'm proud of.
Maybe we need an Over Thinker's Special Interest Group here to counsel TrainBoard members. "Hello, I'm Hardcoaler and I spent yesterday testing various values of resistors to achieve uniform illumination of LEDs on my control panel. I have yet to buy a stick of lumber for my train table."
Welcome aboard, Chuck. Looks like you have your hands full, literally, in your photo. How old are they?
The terrible twos The knowitall nines The you're not the boss of me teens You're almost ready for phase two!!!! Do they share the hobby?
When they were younger they both had their parts when it had to do with trains....now they just stay away from me all together.
