More room to explain here: As I understand it from the NYC subforum, a 10-6 sleeper from train 28 (Carolina Special?) was dropped at Cinncinati and picked up by the James Whitcomb Riley to go to Chicago. Two questions:

Does anyone have a record of that or a sleeper in that service as to what road-number it was?

What color was the upholstery on that train?

Well, if it were from the Southern Railway Carolina Special, it would have been one of the River-series 10-6's from the Southern - Pullman built stainless clad cars, many of which survived and saw service into Amtrak after Southern finally joined in 1979. Pick a river in Southern territory, and there was probably a sleeper named after it - Enoree, Shenandoah, Tennessee, Seneca, Warrior, Holston, French Broad, Ocmulgee, Coosa, Saluda, Yadkin, among others... The Walthers car is a mirror image end-to-end as I recall (Southern vestibule was on opposite end, but don't hold me to that), but only the rivet counters will know.
