In an ideal world I will build an N Scale layout in my living room. Overall it will be for running my fleet of bullet trains over viaducts, around mountains and through hyper-modern cities. It will also have a separate line for local freight and excursion trains.
Period: Early Bullet Train through Current and beyond
Footprint: 'O" shaped around a living room, 18"s to 24"s deep, 5'8"s off the floor
    Track: Kato Unitrak
Wiring: The system will have 10 to 20 blocks use 4 to 8 power supplies and exploit power routing turnouts. Yes, I would love to use that 'other' form but retrofitting my bullet trains and other motive power would be beyond my skills and wallet. Yes, now is the time to make the transition. No, it is not gonna happen,
Trackplan: Initially the layout will be run / built point to point along three walls of the living room.
    • Wall 1) 24" X 9'
    Leading to
    • Wall 2) 18" x 18'
    Leading to
    • Wall 3) 24" X 6'
If all goes well I will then build some form of 18" X 17' 'span' across the living room in 'mid air. No wall behind it.
Construction: Due to windows and such the layout will have to be built at least 6"s from the wall. The vertical support will be held in place by 'braces' out from the wall.

Yes, I recognize that the project is 'crazy'. The final 17' span is just a bad idea but folks who know me know that won't stop me.

Alternately: I can build a 3'x6' switching layout and sell off my bullet trains. Naaa.

    Feedback welcome.
As in the past it can be serious, critical or funny / off topic.
