I decided that I had been a good boy all year, but shouldn't have to wait until Christmas for my reward. So I treated myself to something... [IMG]

I sprung for a new lens for my Rebel XT: Canon 17-85 IS USM. Much heavier than the "kit" lens, but much nicer and more versatile.

I just got a chance to shot with it this week, so there'll be some photos in various forums that were shot with it.

I took a few pictures today and my new lens really proved itself.... I will try and get some photos posted, however, the Image Stabilization allowed me to take a zoom photo this morning @ 85 mm (~ 135 film) handheld that was @ 5.6f 1/80 sec!

I'm very curious to see your results. I've thought about buying the very same lens. And of course, I always enjoy your pictures regardless.

    Here's a couple of samples:

Here's a NS unit idling at the fuel racks early this morning. Handheld (Image Stabilization on) shot zoomed out to 44mm (~70mm film equivalent) f4.0 1/25 second:

Detail is pretty good... on the original, full size image, you can read most of the small lettering and the uneven paint on the frame.

This shot turned out way better than I had thought,,, in fact, I am surprised it was this good!

I heard the train calling to leave the station, and ran to the bridge to snap this shot. It was only 7:15 AM, the train was accelerating, and the shot was taken at 1/5 second!

I doubt I would have gotten anything but a blur w/o the IS.
