My first locomotive and freight car set was delivered today. For some reason, they looked bigger at the Marklin booth at the Hartford convention. I can hear my Dad now "Are you crazy? Why didn't you buy HO scale?" This should be interesting to say the least. I hope that once I get my track set up that it goes easier than I think it will. I am sure I will post again soon. Probably after another episode of questioning myself.

Yep, its like running just the IC chip, instead of the PC, when compared to the other scales.

Make sure you get the Marklin orange shoehorn, er, rerailer. They are pretty little things, but a bugger to put on the track!

In the G scale forum postings they advise Marklin has been assimilated by the Borg, er, Kader.

One company to rule them all.

Dont worry Chris. The main reason I chosed z scale its small size. You will see its advantages once you start running long trains, and wish it was smaller. :D Try to run a 50 car train in Horribly Oversize scale.

Don't let the size intimidate you. John is right, you can run a long train and still wish it to be smaller so you can run longer. The size allows you to get a more realistic layout without having to sacrifice a section of acrage or just have the immediate track area to run.

Keep an eye on the "what's on your workbench" tread and you will quickly be inspired but what you can do and can be done. Sure, maybe they fit in your hand:

but then again, there are many award winning modules:

but you can also make simple desktop layouts that fit in a file drawer (could not find the pix of it finished and actually in Bill Mock's pulled out drafting file drawer!)

So set up soem Micro-Track and get together some folks and in a few months, you'll have something really neat to show off.
