    Rick,

Me, a "real character"? I'll take that as a compliment. :)

Some of the old heads I knew - who came from Conrail's predecessors - were characters themselves. Several of them have, alas, "gone westbound." (One of these was an ex-Pennsy conductor nicknamed Rails, because of his being as skinny as a rail. He passed away a few years ago.)

Dieter, "Quite the character" is indeed a compliment.

I know what you mean by "gone westbound." My family of rails have all gone westbound. Out there railroading somewhere or enjoying everlasting foot ball games. COL I do miss them.

Let's see "Baldy" was my step gread granddad. "Wild Bill" was either my second cousin a conductor for the Santa Fe and later one of the yard supers. My granddad an engineer for Santa Fe (Out of where else...Barstow, Ca.) may have gone by the same nick but everyone seemed to know him as "Maurie" or "Morris". Wish, I had gone to work for the railroad. To long a story to tell here.

Feel free to share with us some stories, of times on the rails.

I do not feel sorry for you at all.
What kind of fool bids on ebay for amusement? All you are doing is making someone else pay more. Amusement?
I say start hoofing it to the post office. What a loser.
