It pulses at low speed. The one I saw at a local hobby store didn't do this.

    1. I ran on a spotless test track
    2. The loco was new out of the box (wheels clean)
    3. Power pack works fine with other units at low speed.

Has anyone else found this to be the case. Any suggestions on what might be the problem?

    Don,

I also noticed this problem while checking out
the loco at my dealer. I only noticed it at slow
speed. It looked as if it was in time with the "rod"
    movement. Who really knows?

Mine does that, but it becomes less apparent as you get it broken in. [IMG]

At least yours runs... Out of the box mine wouldn't run, but after setting the throttle to almost full throttle and pushing it it would take off, than stop as soon as I slowed it. After a little while the burning smell went away but it ran horribly. I sent it back.

    Guys,
This might be a slight maladjustment. Check the ecentric crank on the main driver! If its not forward 15 degrees from the axle hole clockwise push it back through the wheel, the ecentric crack pin and turn it in the wheel, clockwise 15 degrees. This will allow the loco to run smooth and not "jerk" the ecentric rod is binding the movement. This is a very crutial adjustment to any steam loco with ecentric linkage. Easily corrected and will never take but 5 minutes to do.....

Look at both sides, with the smoke box pointing away from you and the cab closest to you. The left side, ecentric crank should be 15 degrees turned counter clockwise, 15 degrees. The right side ecentric crank pin should be turned clockwise 15 degrees.

If this isn't adjusted properly it will bind and run "jerky" and is the biggest steam loco failure in any scale! And sadlt guys that doesn't know this instantly JUNK the loco from it! When it takes but 5 minutes to repair.

And while doing this, check ALL the ecentric linkage rods for tightness. If their tight and do not move freely this will hinder its running preformance as well.. Way to repair that is move the rods by hand alittle, but be carefull NOT to dislodge the rivets holding the rods together! Then once loosened slightly take some os Kadee's "Grease 'Em" dry graphite lubercant and puff alittle on each location of a rivet and or any spot of movement. And then work the rods once again and work in the graphite to help in aid to free movement.

Another lubercant for rods is plain ole Smoke fluid oil.... Its light, and won't hurt a thing on the rods if you don't have any Kadee "Grease 'Em" graphite.
