Sheeesh, I posted a photo of 5444 over in the Phototgraphy and Trains forum titled "photos" and misidentified her as one of the 20th Century Hudsons. I have been trying hard to learn all the NYC history on this and goofed on that call. 5445-5454 were the Century streamliners. BTW I don't know where I got that photo. Is it one of yours, Ron? I assumed it was a "late in steam" photo based on my erroneous assumption that the streamlining had been removed. There never was any. Lettering on the tender and engine is serif style, which may mean that the engine was New at the time. Nice looking Scullin disk drivers on her, too. Go have a look.
Startin the new right huh Jim? Not my photo but I might add that it is on my computer as wallpaper and also the number of the Really Nice Lionel model from last year. Someone kindly sent it to me and I can't recall who but I didn't pass it on....I kept it
Jim; I went and corrected your goof and want to add to my last post. The photo was sent to me by Terry Link. It was shot in Detroit in 1939, near my home town.
Ron, thanks. Boy, you aren't kidding "starting the new year off right." Go over and look at how I butchered an explanation of the Whyte system on the railroad net NYC forum. Must have had my beak in the juice. Back to 5444, I don't know where I got that photo. I sorted my engine files numerically and that one is saved at a much higher resolution than I usually save them. It's interesting that the serif lettering is there, and in the background is 5445's cab, with sans-serif lettering. Doesn't appear to be streamlined, either.
